Maria Theresa de Leon-Tallman, M.D., F.A.A.P
I was born and raised in the Philippines. There I completed my undergraduate education, medical degree, and training in pediatrics. I have a special interest in pulmonary medicine and spent a year at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, completing a fellowship in Thoracic Medicine.
I moved to the United States in 1992 and undertook further pediatric residency training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, New Jersey. I completed my training at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Las Vegas. I am Board Certified in Pediatrics.
I had the privilege of working with several group practices in Las Vegas, Nevada. I came to the Bay Area and joined North Bay Pediatrics in July 2006. I love taking care of children, enjoy working alongside parents, and establishing relationships with new families. I am looking forward to meeting you and participating in the care of your child’s well-being.

F. Shanee Martin, M.D., F.A.A.P.
I completed my medical degree and training in 1980 at the University of London, U.K. where I also completed a one-year internship in Internal Medicine and General Surgery. I then moved to Los Angeles to join a pediatric residency program at LA County-USC Medical Centre, which I completed in 1985.
I joined North Bay Pediatrics in 1985, soon after it’s inception in 1984 and have been very happy to be a part of the practice from its early days to its current success. I have felt that it was very important to have a focus on quality medical care without forgetting the people behind the patients. I see each parent and each child as unique and feel that it is my responsibility to find a way to connect with them. Medicine is a partnership between physician and family. I truly enjoy following each family from their first anxious moments with their newborn, to their stubborn toddler, to their excited kindergartener, sassy sixth grader, roller coaster teen, to the confident young adults poised to leave for college and the rest of the world. It has also been especially rewarding to see some of those children return as parents, with their newborn infants, knowing that we already have an established sense of trust and understanding.
In my spare time I love to travel worldwide with my husband and daughter. While at home, I love to entertain, do home repairs, and make ceramics.

Rina P. Shah, M.D., F.A.A.P.
Welcome to North Bay Pediatrics. I am Dr. Rina Shah. I was born and raised in Southern California where I attended the University of California, Los Angeles, and achieved a degree in biochemistry. From there I attended University of St. George's School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. I began my pediatric residency training in Manhattan at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center and completed my training at the University of California, Irvine.
I began my career working in several small private practices in Southern and Northern California, including North Bay Pediatrics. Until 2008, I was working with an HMO in the Bay Area. With the birth of my daughter, I have had the good fortune to re-join my wonderful colleagues and staff here at North Bay Pediatrics.
In my practice I have a diverse population of patients. I speak basic medical Spanish as well as Gujrati, and I see a broad range of patients from the newborn period through adolescence. I believe in vaccinating my patients. I practice medicine based on the philosophy of moderation and balance. I love to get to know my patients and their families and watch kids of all ages grow up.
My personal interests are many. I enjoy traveling and have visited places like Europe, the Caribbean, Asia, and Central America. I love art and look forward to small crafts projects, and I have been known to attempt to paint as well. I include some form of physical fitness into my daily regimen including tennis, swimming, or yoga and meditation. My favorite board game is Scrabble! I enjoy reading everything from the Wall Street Journal to the "Shopoholic" series. But most importantly I love any time spent with my prolific husband and animated daughter.
I look forward to seeing you in the office.

Alan K. Sher, M.D., F.A.A.P
Welcome! I’m Dr. Alan Sher, the co-founder of North Bay Pediatrics. I would be very privileged to participate in your child’s healthcare. Let me tell you a little about myself.
I was fortunate to grow up living in and exploring many different countries, each with unique cultures, languages and people. I returned to my home in California in time to go to high school in Oakland and college at U.C. Berkley. Having the opportunity again to travel, I went to the University of London to study for a Master’s Degree in Neurophysiology. The Universite Catholique de Louvain, Belgium and Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines were my next stops before returning to the U.S. for my medical degree and pediatric training at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and Beth Israel Medical Center, both in New York. I was now a pediatrician, Board Certified, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics! My years as a student and physician were enriched by participating in disaster and emergency medical work in remote areas around the world. These experiences taught me that human life is precious and have motivated me to use my knowledge to always provide the best medical care I can.
I still manage to sneak off with my wife and children to explore yet another exotic corner of the globe. Each place brings new kids and cultures and reminds me that I am very privileged and have the opportunity to help children as I do.

Gary Winston, M.D.
I mark my 30 plus year career in pediatrics and adolescent medicine in distinct phases. First, I was well trained at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Children’s Hospital Oakland and Zurich Children’s Hospital and especially in my first position in a primary care setting in Lafayette. In my next phase I established my practice in Benicia and learned to trust the information and views of parents about their children. Pediatrics is much more than just getting the correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment. I do value and pride myself to this day on my expertise in making the correct diagnosis and implementing a correct plan. Yet, pediatrics is also about helping families understand and cope with the other non-illness issues involved in raising healthy children. For this reason I early on embraced a desire to learn about child development, evolutionary biology, preventative medicine, and child and adolescent psychology.
In 1984, I along with Dr. Alan Sher founded North Bay Pediatrics. This association and our rapid and significant growth have allowed me to continue to grow in my professional life. I have been able to follow the rapid evolution of medicine and keep abreast of the changes in our approach to health care. I have accepted evidence-based medicine as a bed rock of good medical care. When EBM is combined with the realities, complexities and uncertainties of medical practice and is used in conjunction with a physician’s experience and the needs of the family and child, this can truly form a basis for the best medical experience. We have also been able to maintain the uniqueness of a pediatric practice by remaining independent and placing good medicine as our top priority.
Finally, I now view my medical practice from the experience of these past decades. Taking care of babies born to previous patients is joyful on many levels not the least is the trust that these previous patients have for me to continue caring for the next generation. My focus on these issues that I deal with on a routine basis continues to grow and adds to the complexity and interest that a mature practice involves.
Outside of NBP I have raised four wonderful daughters with my wife Susie. And now we are spending much time enjoying being together. My hobbies include music, reading and water sports.
